Day after APMSO-IJT killings, JI man shot dead

Karachi: Tension gripped the Al-Falah area when unidentified culprits killed a worker of the Jamat-e-Islami (JI) on Wednesday morning within the jurisdiction of Al-Falah Police Station. The incident took place a day after three students lost their lives in APMSO-IJT clashes.

Most shops shut down after four men on two motorcycles shot the JI worker.

"The deceased, Hassan Athar, 32, son of Mansoor Khurshidi, was shot five times and died on the spot," said SHO Rana Saddiq. Athar was a resident of Bilal Town. The incident took place when he went out of the house for some work.

"Athar was a local JI leader but recently, he was operating as an active worker," said SHO Saddiq, adding that a 30 bore TT pistol was used to kill him. The armed men were able to flee. SHO Saddiq said that the deceased used to work in the accounts department of a poultry company and had gotten married six months ago.

When the area police arrived on the scene, they shifted him to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) where scores of JI leaders and workers arrived as well. They took the body away after legal formalities. His funeral prayers were offered by JI Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmed at Numaish Chowrangi, M.A. Jinnah Road, after the Zuhr prayers. Athar will be laid to rest at the Model Colony graveyard today (Thursday). No FIR was registered till the filing of this report.
