Taxila   is an ancient city, about 30 kms west of the Islamabad Capital Territory and Rawalpindi. It is situated on the border of the Punjab and North West Frontier Province, just off the Grand Trunk Road.

Ancient name of Taxila was “Takshasila” which means the “city of cut stones”. It once had the best universities of the world, including the world’s first university the “Takshashila University”.

A number of important industries including Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT), Heavy Mechanical Complex (HMC), Pakistan Ordinance Factories (POFs), Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), Telephone Industry Pakistan (TIP), FECTO Cement etc. are located in the near vicinity of the University, providing excellent opportunities for academic-industrial linkages.

HITEC University aims to live up to the historical past of Taxila and become the premier seat of learning in the region and beyond.

Overview

Heavy Industries Taxila Education City (HITEC) was conceived in 2003. The ground breaking ceremony was performed on 26th Feb 2009. HITEC was inaugurated by the then President of Pakistan on 17th July 2007. The President during inauguration desired that:

“HIT to establish HITEC University to impart education in the field of Engineering, Management, Social Sciences and Liberal Arts. HITEC University should start functioning with initial affiliation with UET Taxila, while the Government of Punjab to process and expedite grant of University Charter to HITEC University on priority basis.”

Accordingly HITEC University began operations in Nov 2007 with an intake of 250 students in affiliation with UET Taxila. In a short period of two years, Provincial Assembly Punjab has passed an Act to provide for the establishment of HITEC University

The University aims to become a center of excellence in all its disciplines, taking inspiration from leading universities across the globe but also through independent hallmarks. Our faculty is outstanding with talent and ability to provide each student with a supporting and enabling learning environment. We endeavor to produce graduates who can contribute positively towards nation building.

The University is sponsored by HIT Education Welfare Trust (HITEWT). It is the intention of the founders of the University that real University culture is developed on the campus comparable to any world class University. For this purpose holistic human development has been conceived. Along with achieving academic excellence the students are encouraged to participate in various activities i.e. sports, culture, social etc.  These activities, it is hoped, will lead to a balanced development of students’ personalities well equipped to face the future challenges.
