Lahore University barred from holding MBBS, BDS exams

Lahore, Feb 10: The Higher Education Department, Punjab, has barred the University of Lahore from holding MBBS and BDS examinations of students of its constituent medical/dental college, which is affiliated to the University of Health Sciences, Lahore.

The Higher Education Department, in an order addressed to the management of University College of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Lahore, categorically said the university was conducting examinations of various MBBS and BDS classes in direct violation of order of the Punjab Higher Education Department of December 15, 2008 by the chancellor.

"It is, therefore, advised to refrain from holding examinations of your students on your own, as they are affiliated with the UHS.

"The examinations given by the UHS to the medical/ dental/ health sciences will be considered valid and legal for their future professional progress; stop the ongoing medical/ dental/health sciences examinations of your students, as the same are invalid, illegal and amount to destroy the future of medical students; submit registration and examination-related documents of all medical/dental students within three days to the UHS for their registration and joining the mainstream medical education.

"It is further advised that the college should not indulge in any illegality to contravene the affiliation status granted to it by the UHS," the order said.

When contacted, the Higher Education Department Secretary Azhar Hussain Shamim confirmed the department's order to the University of Lahore.
