RAWALPINDI, Oct 19 The anti-corruption establishment on Monday obtained three days' physical remand of the medical superintendent and six other officials of the District Headquarters Hospital in connection with a case relating to appointment of six doctors on fake degrees.

Dr Khalid Iqbal, the MS, his deputy ad, hospital accountant Asif Ayub and Director Finance for Allied Hospitals Mohammad Rasheed have been arrested for hiring three brothers - Syed Allauddin, Syed Naseeruddin and Syed Salahuddin - as doctors on fake degrees.

Malik Azmatullah Awan, the area magistrate, turned down the application of the MS and the director finance seeking to be shifted to DHQ hospital on medical grounds.

Three more doctors - Mobeen Akhtar, Maryam Waqar and Romana Malik - and the hospital's head cleric Malik Irfan, his wife Riffat Shaheen, a nurse, are yet to be arrested in the case.

An official of the ACE informed the court that the arrested persons were to be interrogated about appointments of the three brothers hailing from Mohmand Agency and the three female doctors on fake degrees. The investigators said the three brothers had earlier worked as dispensers at the private clinic of Dr Khalid.

Meanwhile, an additional district and sessions judge issued arrest warrants of the medical superintendent of Benazir Bhutto Hospital for not complying with the court directives in recording statement in a murder case.

ADSJ Mohammad Tanveer Akbar issued the arrest warrants after the MS failed to send a replacement for a female doctor who had left the job but was required to record her statement in the murder case.

The court had directed the MS to send any doctor verifying the writings of the lady doctor who had carried out postmortem on the body of Misbah who was burnt to death allegedly by Mohammad Razzak.

In yet another case, the judge issued arrest warrants of two doctors of the DHQ hospital for not appearing in the court to record their statements in a murder case.
