Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) goes online for students and admin

Islamabad: The Higher Education Commission launched on Monday campus management solutions at the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Karachi, and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar, through which student-related activities, from the admission process to the alumni record will be automated.

Through the Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Management Solution (CMS), university-wide management of student-related information will become more streamlined and flexible, the HEC announced.

The two universities are part of a pilot project to facilitate six public sector universities in the fields of medicine, engineering, IT & management sciences and general education with multiple subjects of study from all regions of the country.

The other four universities are the Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Islamia University, Bahawalpur, University of the Punjab and the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences.

The CMS is an integrated solution, which acts as a Management Information System (MIS) while focusing on student-oriented activities of an institution and efficiently deals with the various activities of an educational institution, including faculty management, student management and administrative functions.

The key benefits for students include an enhanced interaction and communication with teachers and peers and the ability for students to meet many recurring needs such as scheduling and verification of attendance, without the assistance of a university employee.

It will also help students to view their degree progress, validate finances and avail financial aid.

The CMS will manage and update the complete student lifecycle, from the stages of recruiting and admissions to housing, career placement, and alumni relations. The programme also provides students and alumni with immediate access to real-time information and connects that information to specific action. It also provides students access to online course selection and registration along with timetables, grades and examination schedules.

The system will increase the operational efficiency of the university and DUHS has taken this step to streamline its processes, deliver advanced self-service features to the students, faculty and administrative management, said DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Masood Hameed Khan. He expressed his gratitude to HEC Chairman Dr Attaur Rahman,

HEC Executive Director Dr Sohail Naqvi for generous support in conceiving and implementing numerous projects including the provision of the National Digital Library, Infrastructure Development, Learning Resource Centre and for providing the Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solution, through which student related activities will be automated.

HEC IT Consultant Anwar Amjad applauded the punctual and successful launching of the campus solution in DUHS and thanked the vice chancellor for his personal interest and involvement in the execution of the project.

Implementation of a campus management solution in the university is a giant leap for the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, said UET Vice Chancellor Imtiaz Hussain Gilani.

Since 2002, the HEC is in the process of positive flux and one of its targets is to facilitate universities with international-level facilities. Just as technology has transformed the way students learn, it also has the power to improve the way colleges and universities manage their administrative processes. At the same time, the realities of higher education in the 21st century drive college and university leaders to pursue new avenues of growth, he added. app
