BIEK chief forms body to probe board’s past affairs
Karachi :October 17:As the deadlock between senior Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) officials persists, the board chairman, Muhammad Akhtar Ghauri, on Friday constituted a four-member high-powered inquiry committee to probe the board's entire financial, procurement and recruitment affairs over the past seven years.

Ghauri, it emerged, has formed the committee, for which a notification was also issued, in light of a letter recently written by the Enquiries and Anti-Corruption Establishment of Sindh to the board regarding possible embezzlement and irregularities in financial affairs over the past several years. The committee, as per the notification, would be headed by acting BIEK Secretary Muhammad Jaffer, while its members include Deputy-Secretary Accounts Muhammad Azeem, Assistant Secretary Establishment Sohail Hameed, and Assistant Secretary Atta-ur-Rehman. The committee could also opt for the services of the board’s superintendent, Rashid Mahmood, and senior clerk, Anwar-ul-Huda.

The body would fully probe all sort of hiring, recruitment, regularisation and promotion decisions taken over the past seven years, including those related to the daily wage and contractual staff. All development works initiated and their tenders and contract distribution would also be scrutinised.

Due verification of signatures and thumb impressions of BIEK employees for the purpose of drawing salaries would also be conducted. The committee, for the purpose of furthering their probe, could also look into official files and records pertaining to the past and present chairmen and controller of examinations, including Anwar Ahmed Zai and Muhammad Imran Khan Chishti. The news.
