BISE to hold Class 9 annual exams from April 26

LAHORE (APP): The annual examination of class 9 for the year 2008 is commencing on April 26, under the aegis of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore. Talking to APP here Monday, Controller Examination BISE, Prof Manzur ul Hassan Niazi said that all arrangements have been finalized in this regard. A total of 193,797 candidates including 101,798 male and 91,997 female will appear in the exam from districts Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Okara and Nankana Sahib. He said this is the first time that private candidates with science subjects are not being allowed to appear in the examination, while only 36,893 private students, both male and female, will sit for the exam in the arts group. However, 33,320 private candidates with science subjects appeared in the last composite annual examination for the year 2007 conducted by the Lahore Board. When asked about the exclusion of the private science students from the exam, especially when government officials continue to stress the need for promoting science education, Prof Manzur observed that this is a policy matter which has nothing to do with the Board. We only follow the rules given us regarding the conduct of the exams, he added. He said that 94,112 regular boys and girls are appearing in science subjects while the number of regular boys and girls in arts group is 62,621. A total of 608 exam centres have been set up in the five abovesaid districts, 286 centers for girls and 318 for boys, while four are combined centres, he said, and gave details of the centres set up in each district.
