FAST-NU convocation 103 awarded degrees
Lahore:16 July : As many as 103 graduates were awarded degrees in the 33rd convocation of FAST National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences Lahore on Monday at its campus. Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashood Ahmad Khan was the chief guest on the occasion.

Chancellor FAST Waseem Sajjad, Rector FAST Dr Ameer Muhammad, Director Lahore Campus Dr Arshad Hussain, Board of Trustees FAST, number of students, their parents and faculty members were also present.

At convocation, 103 degrees were conferred upon graduating students of different disciplines including PhD (Math), MS (Software Engineering), MSc (Electrical Engineering), MS (Computer Science), MBA and MS (Software Project Management). However, 10 gold medals and 6 silver medals were also awarded to shining students.

While addressing the ceremony, Rana Mashhood said, “We need to educate the next generation of innovators and computer engineers to develop technologies that would drive the country’s economic growth to best serve the needs of the society”. He added that Punjab government had taken a number of important steps to ensure promotion of information technology in the province.

“This include: Initiation of first innovation policy in collaboration with Google, at Arfa Karim Software Technology Park Lahore, besides distribution of laptops among brilliant students, setting up of IT Labs at 4200 schools in the province, establishment of IT University, establishment of Land Record Computerisation Centre, establishment of modern digital library at Murree and establishment of 26 E-libraries in Punjab” he added.

The minister said this information technology-friendly policy of Punjab would assist people in acquisition of strong IT infrastructure, along with helping commercial activities and ensure better access to the government services. National progress can never be achieved without imparting IT education to the youth, he added.

The minister lauded the enviable academic reputation of FAST University. He termed the fresh graduates of FAST as torchbearers to others and stressed upon them to rebuild the nation with power of knowledge and character.
