Teachers Rally Against District Education Authorities
Lahore: October 04: A LARGE number of schoolteachers took out a protest procession despite rain against the establishment of District Education Authorities (DEA) on Thursday.
The procession, organised by the Punjab Teachers Union (PTU), started from Lahore Press Club and culminated at Faisal Chowk near Punjab Assembly. A police contingent tried to stop the charged protesters near the Punjab Assembly but they did not give in and succeeded in taking out the procession.
The protest march was led by PTU president Allah Bakhsh Qaisar while a large number of male and female teachers attended it expressing resentment over the establishment of DEAs.
Allah Bakhsh Qaisar said the protest by teachers would continue till the abolition of the DEAs. The other speakers urged the government not to turn education sector into an experiment laboratory.
They also demanded an end to assigning non-academic activities to teachers such as polio vaccination, duties related to census and different surveys.
They warned that if the government did not met their demands regarding provision of 15 percent inflation allowance, house requisition and teaching allowance, etc the teachers would be forced to observe academic boycott. The news.
