A three-day book fair at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi:A three-day book fair at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) started here Tuesday, organised by the AAUR library, where more than 20 well-known national booksellers are exhibiting their publications and around 30,000 books are on display.

According to a press release, Vice Chancellor AAUR Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood Khan while inaugurating the event said that such fairs hold a great significance, as the habit of book reading is dying fast in this age of computers.

Due to the Internet non-availability and high prices of

books, such book fairs should be made into a regular feature at every educational institution, he said.

The basic purpose of the fair is not only to provide an opportunity to the students and teachers to buy books of their interest at one place, but also to promote the book reading habit, he added.

A large number of students visited the book fair and bought books of their interest on agriculture, information technology, as well as natural, social and management sciences along with other topics.

A large number of books of Indian, European and American authors were also available for sale.
