HEC ranking of Private universities
Lahore: 11 July : The University of Management and Technology (UMT) has been awarded the top position in the general category of the private sector institutions in Punjab by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in its ranking for the year 2013.
The UMT has been awarded 25 points on the basis of it teaching standard, quality assurance criteria and research output. Among other private universities in the same category, the Forman Christian College, Lahore, got 23 points, Beaconhouse National University, Lahore, got 21 points, University of South Asia 21, Superior College (University) 18, Hajvery University 18, University of Central Punjab 15, Minhaj University 14 and the University of Lahore was awarded 12 points. The UMT offers 150-plus degree programmes in diversified areas, and boasts a base of 400 full-time faculty members, including more than 60 PhD scholars, and around 6,000 students. The achievement of the “number one ranking” in the general category is more challenging than in any single discipline. UMT Department of Media and Communication Director (Advance Studies) Prof Dr Mujahid Mansoori told Daily Times that the university was earlier placed in the W-4 category. He said it had been put at the top of the ranking list among private universities in the province because of the leadership vision of Rector Dr Hassan Suhaib Murad. He said the UMT was the most quality conscious university among all the HEC chartered private universities of the province; it focuses on quality research and teaching quality. “The teachers and the learning outcome evaluation criteria adopted by the UMT is very strict,” he added.Dawn.
