Death of youth due to doctor’s negligence

Inquiry committee accused of partiality

GUJRANWALA: The family of a youth, who died due to alleged negligence of a doctor at DHQ Hospital, has alleged that the inquiry committee constituted to probe the matter would exonerate its colleague.

Talking to The News, the family members said that Wajid Ali was shifted to DHQ Hospital with chronic pain where Dr Mian Habib Alam, an urologist, operated on him. They said that the doctor left for his private clinic, leaving the patient in the operation theatre where he died after six hours. They said that they had provided eight pints of blood to the hospital staff.

They said that they staged a demonstration and submitted an application to the medical superintendent against Dr Mian Habib Alam on May 17 while the MS constituted a committee comprising senior doctors to probe the matter the next day.

They said that in the meantime, Dr Habib registered a case against relatives of the deceased, including his brothers Zahid and Shahid on the charge of damaging official property and rioting.

They said that the allegations against them were false and the doctor had registered the case to pressure them and evade action against him. They said that the inquiry committee had made no progress even after a fortnight. They alleged that Dr Mian Habib Alam visited the hospital with his armed guards despite a ban on display weapons. They said that the matter was reported to the SSP Operations who promised to look into the matter, but nothing could be done. The News
