GC University Faisalabad Increase in Literacy Rate
Faisalabad : September 12 :  GC University Faisalabad Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zakir Hussain has said that it is prerequisite to increase literacy rate in the country for prosperity and progress.
He was addressing a seminar held in connection with the International Literacy Day here on Wednesday. The VC stressed the need for social mobilisation and giving awareness to the people about the importance of education. Terming the education an engine for development, he said that education makes the difference in the lives. Pakistan was blessed with talented people but literacy rate was only 58 per cent, he lamented. It was a hurdle to make the prosperity in the socio-economic fields and to meet the demand of modern era, he continued. He lauded various steps being initiated by the Punjab government for increasing the educational level in the province. He said that the Educational Enrolment Emergency Campaign, Punjab Educational Endowment Funds, distribution of laptops and solar lamps etc were the hallmark steps that were opening new horizons of progress in the country. He said that the GCUF was taking all tangible steps for providing quality education, adding that the varsity had emerged as the fifth best university of the country according to the Higher Education Commission ranking. GCUF Department of Education Chairman Prof Dr Muhammad Asif said that secret of uplift of the nations was lying in getting education. He called for raising the literacy rate in the county and said that literacy skills were fundamental in decision making and personal empowerment. DO Literacy Muhammad Amjad said that the Punjab government was taking all possible steps for promotion of literacy rate.
