World Teachers Day Today
Lahore : October 05 : PAKISTAN, like rest of the world, will observe the World Teachers Day 2013 with the slogan “A Call for Teachers” on Saturday (today).
In Punjab the schoolteachers are observing the World Teachers Day (WTD) as black day as a protest against what they term the provincial government’s anti-teachers and anti-education policies.
The biggest concern of the government’s schoolteachers these days is the establishment of District Education Authorities (DEAs) and almost all of their associations are unanimous in strongly opposing the new setup. They term the establishment of the DEAs a step towards privatisation of public sector education system.
A number of associations of the schoolteachers have announced to take out protest rallies in the provincial metropolis and other cities besides setting up hunger strike camps. Various NGOs have announced to organise events with regard to the World Teachers Day. Some of these non-profit organisations instead of observing the day on Saturday (today) have planned activities for Monday apparently to avoid “wasting” the weekly off day.The news.
