Balochistan University to stay closed till row resolved
Quetta: The Balochistan University has decided that classes on the main campus and at the Bolan Medical College will remain suspended till all outstanding issues between two rival student organisations are resolved.
The two premier educational institutions of the province were closed following clashes between student groups on Oct 15 but the closure was subsequently extended till Oct 25.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Masoom Khan Yasinzai chaired a meeting on Saturday during which the situation was discussed in detail. The participants of the meeting said that classes should remain suspended till the disputes between the two organisations were resolved.
The meeting decided that a committee representing major political groups and student organisations be formed to resolve the disputes so that the institutions' code of conduct could be followed in a peaceful manner.
The disputes between the two student groups had cropped up over the tests to be given by the National Testing Services for some scholarships sponsored by the HEC.
One student group wanted the distribution of scholarships on merit but the other one favoured a quota-based process. Dawn
