Punjab Legislation for setting the medical education on modern lines

LAHORE: Secretary Health Punjab Anwar Ahmad Khan has said that legislation is being made by the government for setting the medical education on modern lines, progress of the medical sector as well as safeguarding the rights of the people associated with this sector. Amendments are being made in the relevant laws for improving the service structure of doctors, he added.
This was stated by him while talking to a delegation of Pakistan Medical Association in his office, here today. Members of the delegation included President PMA Dr. Zahid Mohyuddin, General Secretary PMA Dr. Azhar Ahmad, VP Women Wing Dr. Shabnum Tariq, Dr. Haq Nawaz Bharwana, Joint Secretary PMA (Center) Dr. Ehsan-ur-Rehman, Dr. Kamran Saeed, Dr. Muhammad Tanvir Awan, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad, Dr. Tariq, Dr. Shahid Malik and other representatives of this association.
The meeting reviewed the problems being faced by the doctors' community. Secretary Health said that PMA is the elected organization of the doctors and the government acknowledges its services. He assured the delegation that practical measures are being taken for improving the service structure of the doctors, promotions, regularizing the contractual appointments of the doctors besides their interests are protected. He said that Chief Minister is taking keen interest for providing better treatment facilities to the people as well as development and progress of the health sector, therefore, substantial funds have been allocated for this sector.
He said that timetable is being chalked out for the early disposal of promotions of doctors through departmental promotion committee. He said that issue of house job doctors is being taken up with the PMDC so that a permanent solution to this issue could be found. He said that mechanism for the promotion of regular doctors performing in King Edward Medicinal University has been evolved which would be implemented after the approval of Punjab Chief Minister. The delegation assured the Secretary Health of its cooperation and said that PMA will fully support the measures taken by the government for the promotion of doctors.
